In 1923, Kenneth McKenzie rebuilt his grocery store after the fire of 1922 had destroyed many of the structures in Old Spanaway. McKenzie sold his business to Herman Fuchs in 1937 who renamed the grocery store - Herman's Shurfine Grocery.
Between 1888 and 1938 Tacoma operated a trolley system that connected the small communities in the area. One of the lines ran from downtown Tacoma to Old Spanaway giving the city residents access to the popular dance hall located on the shores of lake Spanaway.
The trolley ended right in front of McKenzie's grocery store. It was the "End Of The Line"!
End of the Line Vintage is proud to operate out of this classic wooden structure with such a rich history!
Right across the street from our shop is the historic Exchange Tavern. First opened in 1890, the Exchange is one of Washington's oldest continuously operating taverns.
The Exchange is the heart of Old Spanaway and is a "must visit" destination in Pierce County!
